Financial stability provides perpetual care

Because of the financial forethought of board members 100 years ago and today, people who purchase burial spaces at one of the three Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery Society cemeteries don't have to worry about their graves being cared for in the future.

The board of trustees of the Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery Society began these preparations from the time of its inception, banking a percentage of income into a trust for perpetual care. "That was before it was a law that cemeteries had to do it, " said Stephen Bittner, President.

"We look back at them and think they were frugal, but they really were looking ahead."

Making pre-need burial arrangements also aids perpetual care funds. Some of the revenue from each space purchased goes to perpetuate that space.

"You aren't going to be around in 150 years, but your descendants will be, " Steve said.

For that reason, people who purchase burial spaces at St Mary, St Joseph and St John Cemeteries can be sure about proper upkeep at the cemetery when they are no longer around.

Perpetual care and upkeep also means that money is available to keep proper records and that friendly, courteous office personnel will be here to help people find the grave of a relative or friend.
